Have you use the latest version of software?

you may need to install flash

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

or you need to disable the splash screen using flash.

Note: Make sure you have the proper permissions to change any settings on your
computer. Please make sure that you are the Administrator of the computer. If
you are on a corporate network, please contact your system ! administrator for
more information. If you are on a home network, login with an account that has
administrative permissions. If you cannot get administrative permissions, get a
person who can perform the changes for you.

I. Uninstall your current version of Adobe Flash if you have installed it
already:

II. Restart your computer.

III. ! Reinstall Flash Player:

There is option to hide the start button,
Start->administrator-> kiosk Settings->hide Vista Start button.
